Mission Statement

  1. To instruct citizens of Virginia and surrounding areas in marksmanship;
  2. To promote practice and safety in the use of firearms by providing NRA approved training programs;
  3. To conduct competitions in the use of firearms and to award trophies, prizes, badges, and other insignia to competitors;
  4. To provide access to area private shooting facilities through membership in the association, and conduct social activities and events for the better of the community.

SMLPSA shall allow membership to the association to NRA members & guests; and, make available the John G. Rocovich Sports Shooting Range Facility in Wirtz as a primary place to conduct its events. Members will pay an annual membership fee to the association, and a cost per use fee for the facility, and, maintain current membership in the NRA.

SMLPSA shall occasionally participate in events sponsored by other area gun clubs, and members will have access to these facilities by association with the group.

SMLPSA shall occasionally conduct firearms safety and training seminars through NRA Certified Instructors within the association. SMLPSA will occasionally hold special interest seminars on specific subject matter related to firearms safety, use, and competitive shooting skills.

SMLPSA will occasionally hold social events for its members to promote the interaction and cordial atmosphere of its membership.

SMLPSA will allow members to invite non-members to participate in activities at the facility once a month, and can sponsor non-members for potential membership in the association.

SMLPSA members will abide by all rules, regulations, and conditions set forth by the W.E. Skelton 4-H Center and the John G. Rocovich Shooting Facility in accordance with their operating procedures and respect the use of the facility at all times. Members who violate this policy will loose all privileges and membership to the Association.
